This was an excellent purchase.As a Middle School Director for a church, I've been looking for a great, down to earth resource that can fill in the blanks for students, parents, and friends that are considering Jesus, which is a really large task to ask of a single book, but "Jesus Is" delivers. I've known Judah to be a great speaker for a while now so I picked up a copy of this book and unexpectedly found the resource I've been looking for.All in all, Judah's ability to communicate, and break-down walls make this book a must read, and a must-have resource in anyone's library whether you're seeking to know more about who Jesus was/is, or you're looking for a great starter resource that you can get in the hands of others who need it.
While Judah Smith has an engaging style of writing, uses his humor well, and takes on a very important subject, this book disappoints overall. While some of what Smith says is good, accurate and helpful, he simply doesn't take this approach throughout the whole book.One can clearly see where Smith has good intentions, but his view of Christ is incredibly lightweight. Tragically, it seems that Smith has only knows, or at least only decides to present, the aspects of Christ that will culturally appeal. His chapter headers alone reveal a diminished view of Christ. He mentions the deity and sovereignty of Christ only in passing and focuses on his view of "Nice Jesus" in a way that skews the image of Christ.Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this book at all. There are much better works to be read, such as "The Explicit Gospel" by Matt Chandler, that don't require so much charity to appreciate.
I love the refreshing, humorous way that Judah writes! I laughed, I cried, I fell to my knees as my eyes were opened and my heart received a fresh look of the reality of the love my Heavenly Father has for me. This is really worth the read and the money spent! I now am looking forward to listening online at City Church just to hear more of the Word of God. It's such an answer to prayer that God is and has raised up the younger generation to pass on His Word with newness and true life! Jesus said...My words are Spirit and they are life! John 6:63 Thank you Judah for speaking life to these dry bones!
This book is a ray of hope & light. I was going through rough times when I read it and the way it paints a picture of Jesus was transformational. A lot of Bible interpreters get too vague or keep it at a very distant, intellectual debate level. This interpretation brings in modern, relevant examples and language what Jesus is all about. I am reminded He loves and will keep on loving us no matter what. And that for God our best is good enough. Must read & re read!!
This is a clear and straight forward account of the Gospel of Christ. The author does an amazing job of taking theological concepts and boils them down into a clear message that focuses on the freedom Christians find in God's grace and how that freedom should impact our lives.I found that the book began a little slow, but quickly cut into a lot of the concerns I have in my own faith journey. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the Gospel of Christ, as well as those who grew up in a established religion that might be putting undue restrictions on you.
Great book with powerful insight. The one thing I remember well is the concept of praying to Jesus as the one he loves. Those were some of the many powerful pages in this book. If you enjoy a writing style that is more like a conversation with a friend you will enjoy reading Jesus Is. __________
Judah has a way of putting things in plain language and so much of it made sense to me. It made me look at myself a whole new way. It helped to also see Jesus in a different light. You hear that Jesus loves you. I mean there are tons of songs that say that but until you really believe it you really don't feel it. I myself feel so unworthy of His love and so undeserving as well. It was nice to read a book like I was talking to a friend and hearing how he feels sometimes.We are so lucky to have a savior like Jesus who loves us unconditionally and I would hope that would make us want to better people. If people think that the Christian walk is easy then they need to think again. But oh the rewards are so worth it!!!!! Read the book!!!! It's awesome!!!
I have never heard anyone talk about Jesus like Judah Smith does in this book. I honestly feel like I've met Jesus all over again. Sort of like discovering a long lost stuffed animal you loved dearly as a child, but on a cosmic scale.I've been flying high with a skip in my step since Saturday. People have looked at me funny and even my boss said I seemed a little different, but in a good way.You know why? Jesus loves me. Whoa.Judah shares truth about sin, unending grace and unfathomable love while continually bringing the reader back to the Bible. He provides a fresh perspective on parables I've heard hundreds of times, but somehow missed the simple truth: Jesus loves me.Whether you've grown up in the church, are a new believer, have questions about faith or think Christians are idiots, Jesus Is is a powerful book because it is all about Jesus. That's it.
